Photographs from the Count, 1971

The first photograph shows newly-elected councillor Dave Brough (Lab, Stanmore South) signing the Councillors' Register.  He is flanked by Cllr. Bob Lovell (Lab, Wealdstone North, left) and Stanley Lancaster (Town Clerk, right).  Watching on is Labour activist Richard Kee.

The second photograph shows the moment when the result for West Harrow ward - the last to be declared - was announced.  With it came confirmation that the Labour Party, for the first time, were to have the largest group of councillors, and Labour supporters show their delight.

This photo originally appeared on the front page of the 'Harrow Observer', 18 May 1971.  The above image has been scanned from a copy print owned by Gareth Hadley.
